From June 9 to 15, communities across Australia - and around the world - will come together to mark Men's Health Week 2025.
It is an annual opportunity to shine a spotlight on the unique health challenges faced by men and boys.
This year's theme is twofold and powerfully relevant: "Shoulder-to-Shoulder - Connecting for Health" and "See a GP".
At BallyCara, we proudly support this important initiative and encourage our community, especially our older male Residents and Clients, to get involved and take simple but meaningful steps toward better health and wellbeing.
Why Men's Health Week Matters
Men's Health Week is more than a health campaign - it's a conversation starter. It's a reminder that looking after our health isn't something we do alone. By standing shoulder-to-shoulder with mates, family, and our wider community, we create strong support systems that make it easier to take charge of our health.
This year in Australia, the added message is clear and urgent: "See a GP". If something doesn't feel right - whether physically, mentally, or emotionally - it's time to book that appointment. No issue is too small when it comes to your health.
Four Key Messages for Men This Week
We're also focusing on four practical actions every man can take today:
- Do regular exercise - Staying active doesn't mean running marathons. A daily walk, a swim, or gentle group exercises can reduce stress, boost heart health, and improve mood.
- Book regular check-ups and screenings - Early detection saves lives. Whether it's a prostate check, blood pressure reading, or diabetes screening, these appointments matter.
- Seek support when you're struggling - Life has its challenges, and there's strength in speaking up. Don't wait until things get worse. Talk to a mate, a professional, or someone you trust.
- Help a mate who might be doing it tough - If you've noticed a friend or neighbour isn't quite themselves lately, reach out. A simple "how are you going?" could be the lifeline they need.
How BallyCara is Supporting the Week
Throughout Men's Health Week, BallyCara will be hosting a variety of events and activities to support these messages, including:
- Wellness talks with local health professionals
- Gentle group fitness sessions
- Social catch-ups designed to encourage open conversations
- Informational displays highlighting men's health facts and tips
These events offer a great opportunity not only to learn but to connect. After all, community and conversation are just as important as cholesterol levels and check-ups.
Take the First Step
This Men's Health Week, we invite you to:
- Check in on yourself
- Check in on a mate
- And most importantly - See a GP if something doesn't feel right
Your health is worth it. And you're never alone - at BallyCara, we're in this together, shoulder-to-shoulder.
